Which other fictional characters do you think would be good Rangers, and why? It can be anyone, from any series.
I think Eragon or maybe Roran, from the Inheritance Cycle. Eragon’s curious, and he is already a good archer. Whether his natural swordskill would mean he’d be like Gilan, or not, I’m not really sure. Roran is a genius at capturing cities, probably rivalling even Will. He prefers to fight using only a hammer, and was never as good as Eragon at hunting, but given he is certainly skilled with a hammer, he might be able to learn to use other weapons, but mainly use a hammer.

I think Rook from the video game series "Banner Saga" would make an amazing ranger! He is a good hunter and gets a lot of strategy and leadership experience in his journey.

This is a really neat idea! Off the top of my head, Esca - The Eagle of the Ninth - A Briton, good in all forest craft and with horses. Also with a variety of weapons but prefers the spear

Robin Hood obviously. I had a fan fiction awhile back basically setting Robin Hood story and mythos into Araluen.
Aragon. Lord of the Rings.
I agree with Eragon, I loved those books and was reading them at the same time I read Rangers Apprentice.

Hmmm... Good question. Maybe Eugene, from Tangled? (Don't tell any rangers I said that)

Basically any and all of the actual Rangers from the Tolkien books.

Elves would make fantastic rangers too.

And dwarves, if you could train them to be sneaky. (your talking LOTR right?)

It depends. Most Hobbits aren't adventurous enough to go out andfight the way Ranger's do. Even the one's that did hardly used their swords.

But Rangers don’t use swords. The primary purpose of Rangers isn’t to fight, it’s to be an intelligence force. Hobbits move extremely quietly, something essential for Rangers. Bilbo is said to have really good aim, although that may be just him, which may make him a good archer.
The main question for Hobbits as Rangers is when you’d start training them, since they become adults at 33. Their long lifespans should make up for starting late, though.

the tooks and bradybucks were bow men, so they would be the best rangers...

Yeah, but I would image a long bow would be the same size as a hobbit
