I don't know, but both in rangers apprentice and then especially brother band(I know this isn't the net for them) the populations seem all over the place, also especially the weather. for example in book 9, picta is snow free and chilly, but in book six northern araluen is freezing and seems to have a lot of snow. but then they can push a cart through it all to assault castle mackinaw. seems kind of weird. an example of the weird population is it seems like hallasholm is a small town of like maybe 1000 people( seems like less if you consider the average brother band size is about 20 per year)(and people don't live that long). so having three hundred araluen archers would be nearly unbearably large to support. also if the scandians could only muster 1500 soldiers to fight the temujai, and with their apparent militarization there population would seem very small. which is weird once you consider how big araluens population must be, and how big of a burden those 300 archers would be upon their military, especially since araluen doesn't keep a standing army so the expense would be great. also from a strategic perspective why are they keeping celtica around, there is no reason. aslo completly unrealted, but what the heck happened to all the fantasy aspects after book 2, like seriously would none else try to collect that army of wargals and bend them to a new will. like it kind of came back with the mind control over allice in book six. but still just disapeared. there was the one moment with the barrows that will ran through when trying to get Malcom in book nine but still seems weird. but back to geography and world building, where the heck was he on the map, picta covers the whole top of araluen and it sounded like there was at least hills along the whole border(or why would they invade through Norgate in winter???). so I'm confused. if anyone has ideas epic.

The fantasy element disappearing is hard to explain in-universe. It's still kinda there but the books are more focused on realistic themes now with supernatural things appearing every now and then.

Hmmm... you bring up some interesting points. I will tackle them one at a time. (Bearing in mind that it's been several months since I read any of the books, so I may be a little rusty.
The weather is always complicated. I'm not sure about Picta being chilly and snow free in Halt's Peril. If memory serves me right, Picta wasn't really mentioned much at all in books 8 and 9, though Will did go to Norgate to fetch Malcolm. Are you sure you don't have Picta and Hibernia confused? As for pushing the cart through the snow, I think it had been mentioned that the snow was beginning to melt by that point and they had half a dozen Skandians to help them push it, so I don't think it should have been too difficult.
Hallasholm is the capital of Skandia, so I'd imagine it has a few more people than that. I'd guess that, for every sixteen year old boy doing brotherband training, there would be at least fifty other people who were older, younger or female that wouldn't be doing it. The fight with the Temujai was cunningly planned at a time when most of the wolfships would be away, from memory. As such, the ones that were at home and could help with the battle would only have been a small percentage of the total fighting men, and there would have been other towns and settlements that just couldn't get there in time, due to either snow or some other inconveniences. I'd estimate that the harbour at Hallasholm would have room for about forty to fifty ships, each crewed with approximately thirty men. Other towns would have their own harbours. We don't know how many there were, nor do we have indication of sizes, but I'd guess there would be a good two hundred wolfships, maybe more. Also, the archers weren't solely there to sit around in case the Temujai attacked. They would have been contributing members of society, building up friendships and starting businesses, farming and growing crops.
I'm not entirely sure what you're suggesting they do to Celtica. While it is true that Araluen could simply invade it and be done, they're generally more ethical than that and tend to not start fights. (Besides, the maps wouldn't look quite as good if Celtica was missing, in my honest opinion)
The fantasy aspect was, I think, experimentation. When John Flanagan was starting out, he thought he'd give it a try, but he preferred the more realistic adventure and dropped it. (A decision I personally agree with, but that's just me) I mean, yes, someone could have hunted the wargals down again and bent them to their will, but who, why and when? Rebellion seems to have been largely quenched, for now. Evil warlords aren't a regular occurrence and they don't all have the will power of Morgarath, so I wouldn't expect another bad guy to just pop up immediately and take control of them. (It could happen in a hundred or so years, though)
There is a mountain range on the map that, so far as I know, has never really been used. Maybe that's where Will was riding through. (It would make sense, I think, since the fens are in the way of going along the coast. (I should probably double check the map, actually. I may be wrong)
So, what do you think? Does my reasoning make sense? I hope this is helpful, or at least interesting. ('Tis slightly long, I know)

Ty Ty for the help. Celtica is obviosly an ally but why some kind of single crown arangement with local autonomy doesnt occur seems odd to me but entirely possible. I forgot about the timing so that explains the warriors though im still unconvinced on the population of hallashom as Hal could walk across town and into the wilderness with seeming ease but that could just be minute local geography. the point about the araluen archers makes sense though the cost for araluen still seems large. And for the fantasy i was jsut hoping there was some in world explanation. I like worldbuilding but i cant write for anything. its just what i notice but ty for the help
