It is anticipated that there will be disagreements on this board. That's fine, so long as it is done respectfully and appropriately.
When debating, online or in real life, tone is key to ensuring a profitable discussion. You may be right, but you will always be wrong to the other person if you present your points in a way that degrades or puts them or their perspective down
Making verbal attacks against someone, or name-calling is unacceptable. The trouble is that calling someone a "whiner" or worse does not answer their points; all it shows is that you're prone to get angry when you and/or your point of view are contradicted, and that you prefer to express those feelings unproductively. If you are wrong about something and realize it, try to have the good grace and respect for your opponent to own up to your mistake and acknowledge their correction. Discussions about controversial subjects aren't contests, and shouldn't be about "sides", even if we often treat and think of them that way. The person you disagree with is not your enemy. The people on this forum are (or at least should be) your friends, and it's important to always remember to treat them that way; the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".
