(Royal Ranger short story at the end of The Caldera)
At the end, Maddie and Will find the game on the front porch from the large panther. Do you think the animal will be featured in some of the other books? I felt it was sort of implied, but I am not really sure how that would work.

Good question. I would say probably not. It just doesn't really make sense to include it in other books. Maddie's already dealt with it and it would feel a little bit dejavu to see it again. It could make interesting fanfiction fabric though.

That is what I thought, but why else would Flanagan have it follow her and give food at the cabin. Wasn't he already doing that before she left the farm?

Sometimes the best stories are ones that are wrapped up in a way that makes them feel incomplete. It leaves room for the reader's imagination to fill in the rest.

True, but I find myself the opposite. While I like a bit of the unknown, I like to have as much explained as possible. Tolkien is a good example.

The problem is, the more you explain, the more there is to explain. There will always be loose ends. If you tie up the ends too tightly, the story will start to fray. It won't be realistic anymore if there aren't any bits to fill in yourself. In our own lives, we can't see everyone's thoughts and reasons for the way they do things. If a character can, it wouldn't be believable. The world is a complex place and nobody fully understands it.

My example of Tolkien was that he created this huge universe and there are hardly any looses ends. I like a story that has a nice wrap up at the end and won't leave you wondering.

I see. I suppose Tolkien doesn't have loose Ends. There are just little hints to other stories all the way through that never get told except by the imagination. Personally, a story with a nice wrap up leaves me wondering more than one that seems to end unfinished.

Okay, I'm guessing you mean 'Has anyone noticed that Maddie is the baby in the family?'? In that case, yes, I have noticed that. It's kind of strange that she's the only heir to the throne. Then again, there could be other circumstances that we're not aware of.

Yes, Maddie is definitely an only child. I was more referring to the fact that it might not have been possible for Cassandra to have any more children, for some reason.
